Avoid Root
Canal Changing Your View
Of Root CanalsTo avoid root
canal treatment after it has been recommended by
your dentist is delaying the inevitable. Once your tooth
needs a root canal you are faced with only two options. You
can have the tooth removed or save it with a root
canal.
To avoid root canal treatment by having a tooth
extracted might seem easier. But there are
some considerations to be made. The first is that you obviously
create a space or gap when you have a tooth removed. Depending
on the position of your teeth this could create a problem with
your bite unless you replace the missing tooth. You may also
have some shifting of your teeth after an extraction. The
bottom line here is that you may create a problem that is much
more difficult to manage than a simple root canal problem.
Of course there are times when a tooth has to be extracted.
When this is necessary it is usually advisable to replace the
missing tooth as soon as possible. This is typically done with
an implant or bridge.
To avoid root canal treatment for the sake of
cost might not be such a great deal either. The
root canal cost is high at the time of treatment. But if you
look at it as a long-term investment in your health it doesn't
seem to be so expensive. Replacing a missing tooth can be much
more expensive than saving it with a root canal treatment.
Many people want to avoid root canal
treatment because of their fear and anxiety.
That's why I wrote the book The
Relaxed Root Canal. It is very common to have a
very high degree of anxiety about an upcoming root canal.
Most of the fear and anxiety about root canals comes from
the few people who have had bad experiences. The majority of
root canals are performed with no problems at all. But whether
it is a New York City root canal, an Atlanta root canal, or a
London root canal, root canal complications can occur.
Most root canal problems are easily managed and the tooth is
still saved. However there can be some discomfort during the
process of saving the tooth (this is rare).
To avoid root canal treatment because of fear is
also due to how root canals were done many years
ago. The treatment has changed significantly even
over the past 20 years. One significant change is in the local
anesthetics used. Today's anesthetics are able to get a tooth
very numb for the root canal treatment. This wasn't true years
ago and this led to some uncomfortable experiences in the
dental chair.
The instruments used today are also vastly improved over
those in the past. A root canal treatment can now be completed
in less time and with
less discomfort.
To avoid root canal treatment in the 21st
century is not your best option. Millons of teeth
are saved each year with root canal treatments.
I wrote The Relaxed Root
Canal to answer the most commonly asked
questions about root canals. I also give you some practical
tips for having a relaxed experience for your root canal
treatment.
In chapter five I also give you
the one question you should
ask your dentist BEFORE having your root canal
treatment.
You must get a YES answer to this question.
I'll give you my recommendation as to what to do if you
get a NO answer.
