Need Root
Canal ? Changing
Your View Of Root Canals
Do you need root canal treatment? Don't feel all alone. Each
year millions of people have root canals. In fact it has been
estimated that over 20 million root canals are done in the
United States and 100 million worldwide.
There really aren't many real toothache remedies. If you
have a toothache that is coming from a diseased dental pulp
(commonly known as "abscess tooth") then you only have two
options: tooth extraction or root canal. Needed or not needed
is the question you might have. You're not so sure that your
toothache is bad enough to do anything about right now.
In other words, is a root canal needed or is there another
toothache remedy for my tooth?
You don't feel like you have a true dental emergency but you
know something isn't right with your tooth.
I've been an endodontist (root canal specialist) for over 20
years. I've helped many people determine if they really need
root canal treatment.
Sometimes this is challenging. Fortunately, most of the time
your dentist will be able to make this determination within a
few minutes.
If you need root canal treatment:
- You may have spontaneous
pain. This means your tooth just starts
hurting for no reason. You don't have to eat or drink
something to make it hurt. Your tooth may even wake you up
in the middle of the night hurting.
- You may have severe temperature
sensitivity. Some people's teeth are more
sensitive to hot and cold than others. Typically this
sensitivity is of very short duration. When the tooth
returns to its normal temperature the sensitivity will
leave. However, you may very well need root canal treatment
if the sensitivity is very severe and last for several
seconds or longer.
- You may have pain on
chewing. A root canal needed in this
case can be more difficult to determine when small cracks
are present in the tooth. Sometimes a filling or crown will
take care of this problem.
- You may have a true dental
emergency. Is a root canal needed in every
dental emergency? No, there are other emergency situations.
But toothaches from a diseased dental pulp are the most
common ones.
- You may not know it at all!
That's right you may need root canal treatment and not
have
any pain at all. Your dentist may see something on your
dental x-ray during a regular check-up. Most of the time
this prompts the patient to ask, "Is a root canal needed at
this time? Can't I wait until it hurts?" Well, the
answer is that it is always better to have your tooth
treated before a toothache remedy becomes necessary. You
can waste a lot of time looking for toothache remedies. If
you have a diseased pulp then the best toothache remedy is
a root canal treatment.
I've written The Relaxed Root
Canal for those who need root canal treatment. In
this book I answer over 80 questions about root canals. After
doing thousands of root canals I know the questions and
concerns people have about saving their tooth.
In Chapters 10 & 11 I'll tell you the
ONE THING YOU SHOULD NOT
DO if you have a toothache. It is a common home
toothache remedy that will make your situation worse.
In Chapter 5 I give you THE ONE QUESTION
YOU SHOULD ASK YOUR DENTIST BEFORE YOUR ROOT
CANAL. You simply must get a YES answer to this
question from your dentist. I give you my recommendation for
what to do if you get a NO answer.
