Relieve Toothache  Changing Your View Of Root Canals

To relieve toothache pain you need to see a dentist. Although you can find many home remedies for a toothache you will eventually need professional dental care. Some people disagree with this and believe that there are effective home remedies for toothaches.

If you have a toothache that is caused by an inflamed or infected dental pulp you will have to see a dentist to  relieve toothache pain permanently.

You might be able to use an herb or one of the other home remedies for a toothache to get temporary relief but your toothache will return.

Most toothaches come from a diseased dental pulp. However there are other sources that aren't dental but produce pain that feels like a toothache. Some of these are:

  • Sinus infection
  • TMJ syndrome
  • Angina and other heart problems

This is why it is so important to see a dentist as soon as you experience pain in your mouth. You may be trying at
home to relieve toothache pain that isn't even coming from a tooth!

The most common cause of a true toothache is inflammation or infection of the pulp in a tooth. The pulp is the soft tissue on the inside of a tooth. It is very important when you're a child because it actually builds the hard tooth structures:

  • enamel
  • dentin
  • cementum

Once your tooth has completed its development the dental pulp doesn't have a vital function in maintaining your tooth.

The pulp is susceptible to inflammation just like other soft tissue in your body. The most common causes of
pulpal inflammation are:

  1. tooth decay (the most common cause)
  2. previous dental procedures (such as silver fillings, crowns, etc.)
  3. trauma (bumping a tooth in an accident)

Because the pulp has some healing capacity it is able to reverse some inflammation and return to a healthy condition. You may notice this after you have a small filling placed and your tooth is sensitive for a couple of days.

You can usually relieve toothache pain such as this with over the counter analgesics like what you would
take for a headache.

Inflammation can be severe enough, however, that the pulp can not reverse it. This type of inflammation can lead to a severe toothache and/or tooth infection. To relieve toothache pain from this irreversible pulpal inflammation you will require more than home remedies for a toothache.

You can find temporary remedies for toothaches but not permanent ones. Probably none of the home remedies for a toothache are any more effective than over the counter analgesics such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen.

Over my 20+ years as and endodontist (root canal specialist) I've heard this question many times:

Why can't I just take an antibiotic to relieve toothache pain?

We have grown so accustomed to taking antibiotics for many ailments. Fortunately, they do work for many infections that we encounter. And they will provide some temporary relief when you have a tooth infection.

However, it won't heal your tooth infection in the same way it will heal other infections such as a sinus infection.

The reason for this is the location of the dental pulp. It is trapped inside the hard tooth structures. Once it becomes infected it must be removed. It would be like having a thorn stuck in your finger. The only permanent
solution is to remove the thorn. The only permanent solution for an infected tooth is to remove the infected pulp.

To relieve toothache pain in the case of an infected dental pulp there are only 2 solutions:

  • Tooth removal
  • Root canal procedure

I know you were hoping that there were some effective home remedies for a toothache that would help you avoid seeing your dentist. And I know that having a root canal procedure can cause a great deal of nervousness.

That's why I wrote The Relaxed Root Canal. In this book I answer more than 80 questions that I've been asked about the root canal procedure.

In Chapter 5 I will give you THE ONE QUESTION YOU SHOULD ASK BEFORE YOU HAVE YOUR ROOT CANAL PROCEDURE.

You simply must get a YES answer to this question. I'll also recommend what to do if you get a NO answer.

In Chapter 10 I tell you the one thing YOU SHOULD NOT DO to relieve toothache pain. This is one of the most popular of the home remedies for a toothache that people try. I've seen many people the day after they try this.

It also makes pain and swelling worse. For more information CLICK HERE.
