Tooth Ache
Changing Your View Of Root Canals
Does your tooth ache? If you’re looking to
cure toothache pain you will discover that there are few
options. You won’t find a permanent toothache
remedy in the drug store. To cure toothache pain
you’re going to eventually need to see your dentist.
A tooth ache can start out as a little sensitivity or it can
wake you up in the middle of the night as a throbbing
pain. Here are three very common causes of a severe
toothache?
1. Deep tooth decay. This is one
of the most common causes of dental pain. Tooth decay starts
out as a tiny hole in the enamel of a tooth. This tiny
hole is often detectable only by your dentist. Once the decay
has penetrated the hard enamel it quickly moves through the
underlying dentin. Dentin is much softer than enamel and
provides little resistance against the progressing tooth decay.
The bacteria from this decay enter the dental pulp and cause
inflammation which leads to a tooth ache.
2. Prior filling or crown. Anytime
you have a dental procedure performed on a tooth the dental
pulp becomes inflamed. This inflammation may be mild and
resolve in time. You’ve probably had a filling done and noticed
sensitivity for a day or two. This was caused by inflammation.
The inflammation was reversible and no treatment was
necessary. On the other hand this inflammation may be
irreversible and cause your tooth ache to
begin.
This may occur quickly or it may happen years after the
dental treatment was performed. It can be confusing to develop
a severe toothache five years after a crown is placed but it
happens frequently.
3. Tooth fracture. A crack
or fracture in a tooth can also cause the dental pulp to become
inflamed and painful. This is very common in people who chew
ice. Large fillings may also cause small fractures to develop
in a tooth. Some of these are minor and cause no problem while
others are deep enough to cause pulpal inflammation.
How can a tooth ache so severely you can't
sleep at night?
A severe toothache will test just about anybody. It can
be so bad you’ll do just about anything to cure toothache
pain. The pain is so intense because the dental pulp is encased
within the hard tooth structure. There is no room to allow
swelling that would decrease the intensity of the pain. The
increasing pressure impinges on the pulp's nerve fibers causing
a severe toothache.
So is there a toothache remedy? You
can take some pain medication for some relief. However, a tooth
ache caused by an inflamed pulp will need a root canal
treatment to get rid of the pain permanently.
That’s probably not what you wanted to hear! I understand
that. I’ve performed thousands of root canal treatments over
the past 20+ years and I’ve treated many fearful
patients.
I wrote The Relaxed Root
Canal to answer all your questions about
root canal treatment. The goal of this book is to help you
relax and not become so stressed out over this fairly simple
dental procedure.
In chapter 5 of The Relaxed Root
Canal I also give you
the question to ask
before your root canal treatment is
performed. You should get a YES answer to
this question. I'll tell you what to do if you get a NO
answer. For more information CLICK
